Queens Wharf Events Centre was opened in 1995 as a 3 court sports stadium as part of a complex that incorporated The Retail Centre, on Queens Wharf area of the Waterfront.  This complex was part of the Waterfront Development Plan at the time, and was the catalyst at the time to begin the rejuvenation of the Waterfront area.

However The Retail Centre, designed to accommodate a variety of retail outlets to encourage shoppers to the waterfront precinct, failed to fire and the complex became an office precinct, with a small amount of retail on the fringes.

On 1 November 2003, Wellington Convention Centre, won the management rights to Queens Wharf Event Centre, changed its name to the Events Centre, Wellington which changed again in 2005 to TSB Bank Arena as a result of a naming rights agreement.

In 2004, a $7.4M upgrade of seating facilities and services commenced and following its completion 3 years later, this venue has become a well established multi-purpose venue, with a first class reputation, that hosts large concerts of all types, exhibitions, banquets, first class sports events, trade shows with a high level of occupancy.
