Whether you are visiting during summer months and greeted by bright red Pohutukawa trees flowering in the hot sun, or visiting in winter and battling the Southerly to stand upright, Wellington’s climate is unpredictable, yet always alluring. Summer is from December to February; Autumn is March to May; Winter is from June to August; and Spring is from September to November.

During those strikingly sunny days, if you’re a little tired from walking along our gorgeous waterfront, then grab a bean bag at St John’s bar … conveniently located across the road from the Michael Fowler Centre. Otherwise why not relax at the The Jimmy Cafe & Bar, St James Theatre in Courtenay Place – home to the Royal New Zealand Ballet.
When night takes hold head downtown – the capital offers fabulous entertainment with a variety of different options from a laid-back jazz bar to dancing the night away.
Galleries, museums, wildlife sanctuaries, nature walks, and harbour trips – it’s all here. No visit to Wellington is complete without a trip to the Museum of New Zealand – Te Papa Tongarewa – explore the nature, art, cultural heritage and history of New Zealand. You can also take a parliament tour, a movie tour, or a trip to the Weta Cave. If you prefer the outdoors, there’s always the cable car up to the botanical gardens or a walk round Zealandia – the Karori Wildlife Sanctuary Experience, or to red rocks to visit the seal sanctuary.
